Women reshaping India's dance-music scene
From the DJ booth to the promoter's desk, women are driving some of the most important work in Indian nightlife.
India's dance-music scene, like most around the world, has long been male-dominated — but that's changing, and some of the most vital work in the country's nightlife today is being led by women, on the decks and behind the scenes.
Behind the booth and beyond
A growing roster of women DJs and producers are earning festival slots and building devoted followings on the strength of their sound. Just as importantly, women are increasingly shaping the scene as promoters, event managers, artists and community-builders — the roles that actually determine what a night looks and feels like.
Safer, better floors
This shift matters beyond representation. A more diverse scene tends to be a safer, more welcoming one — and there's a real, growing focus across Indian nightlife on making dancefloors spaces where everyone can feel comfortable. That work benefits every single person who steps onto a floor.
The direction
The scene is healthier when the talent and the leadership reflect the whole crowd. The women driving India's nightlife forward are making it not just more equal, but genuinely better — and the momentum is only building.
