Rajasthan's premier tiger reserve — where big cats roam among ancient ruins and a thousand-year-old fort.

Entry

Best time

October–April; April–May for higher tiger sightings

Time needed

Half day per safari (2–3 nights recommended)

Ranthambore is Rajasthan's most famous wildlife destination and one of the best places in India to see a wild tiger. Once a royal hunting ground, the park spreads across dry forest, lakes and dramatic ruins, all watched over by the ancient Ranthambore Fort — a setting that makes a safari here uniquely cinematic.

Beyond its celebrated tigers, the park is home to leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles, deer, and a wealth of birdlife. Spotting a tiger padding past a crumbling chhatri or beside a misty lake is an experience that stays with you.

Don't miss

  • A morning or afternoon jeep safari in search of tigers.
  • The atmospheric Ranthambore Fort within the reserve.
  • The lakes and their crocodiles, birds and deer.

Good to know

Safari permits are limited and sell out — book well in advance, and do more than one safari to improve your chances. The park closes during the monsoon (roughly July–September). Jeeps (gypsies) offer a better experience than the larger canters.
