Overlooked by the tourist crowds, the little blue town of Bundi is one of Rajasthan's most charming secrets — and its Taragarh Fort and adjoining palace are a big reason why. Clinging to a steep hillside, the fort is romantically overgrown and half-wild, with monkeys, sweeping views and an air of faded grandeur.
The real treasures are inside the Bundi Palace: the Chitrashala, a gallery of exquisite Rajput miniature murals in vivid blues and greens, considered among the finest surviving examples of the art form. Exploring here feels like genuine discovery.
Watch for monkeys on the way up. Bundi is refreshingly untouristy and best enjoyed slowly. It pairs well with the nearby stepwells and Kota.
