Built in the 1560s for the Mughal emperor Humayun, this magnificent garden-tomb was the first of its kind in India and the direct architectural ancestor of the Taj Mahal. Set within formal charbagh gardens divided by water channels, its red sandstone and white marble dome is a study in perfect symmetry.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site beautifully restored in recent years, it's one of Delhi's most peaceful and photogenic monuments — far calmer than the city's busier landmarks.
Go early or late for the best light and fewer crowds. Pair it with the nearby Nizamuddin Dargah for its evening qawwali.
