Juhu Beach isn't for swimming — it's for soaking up Mumbai at its most exuberant. This long stretch of sand in the western suburbs is where the city comes to unwind: families paddling, kids on ponies, cricket games, and above all, food.
The beach is famous for its chaat — pav bhaji, bhelpuri, pani puri and dosas served from a line of stalls — best enjoyed as the sun sets over the Arabian Sea. It's chaotic, colourful and quintessentially Mumbai.
The water isn't clean enough for swimming — this is a hangout-and-eat beach. Evenings are best. Eat at busy, high-turnover stalls.
