✦Expert advice from Pronite
Pronite's verdict: the most elegant afternoon in Delhi. The Atrium and the palm-court setting make high tea here a genuine occasion — book a table, dress smart, and take time to admire the hotel's museum-grade collection of colonial art. Patiala Peg bar afterwards for a nightcap. A refined, unhurried luxury that the city's flashier venues can't match.
Opened in 1936, The Imperial is Delhi's most graceful heritage hotel — an Art Deco and colonial landmark on Janpath, set among palm-fringed lawns and hung with one of the finest private collections of colonial-era art in the country. It is understated, old-world luxury at its best.
Its afternoon high tea is a Delhi institution: tiered stands of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries served amid marble, chandeliers and impeccable calm. The 1911 bar and Patiala Peg round out an elegant afternoon or evening.
