Temples to Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, are extraordinarily rare — and the Jagatpita Brahma Mandir at Pushkar is the most important of the very few that exist. That rarity makes it one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in the country.
Marked by its distinctive red spire and a hamsa (goose) motif, the temple is built of marble and stone, its silver-coin-studded floor worn smooth by centuries of devotees. Set close to the sacred lake, it forms the spiritual anchor of the whole town.
Photography inside is restricted and shoes must be left outside. It's a short walk from the ghats — visit the two together.
