Looming on the hill directly above Amber, Jaigarh is the muscular, military sibling to Amber's palatial beauty. Built to defend the fort and city below, it's one of the few Indian forts never conquered — a rugged complex of watchtowers, ramparts, granaries and a palace, largely intact.
Its most famous resident is Jaivana, cast here in the 18th century and long considered the largest cannon on wheels in the world. The fort also offers commanding views and is linked to Amber by subterranean passages and a hilltop road.
Easily combined with Amber Fort — they share the same hill. There's a separate ticket, though the composite Jaipur ticket may cover it. Great for anyone interested in military history.
