Perched on the Aravalli ridge overlooking Jaipur, Nahargarh was built in the 18th century as a retreat and a defensive outpost. While its ramparts once protected the city, today its greatest asset is the view — a sweeping panorama over the entire pink expanse of Jaipur spread out below.
Inside the walls, the Madhavendra Bhawan palace is a charming warren of linked suites built for the king and his queens, connected by corridors. But it's the sunset from the fort's edge, with the city lights beginning to twinkle, that most people come for.
It links up with Jaigarh Fort along the ridge. The road up winds through the hills — lovely by day, and the fort's cafés make it a favourite sunset-and-dinner spot.
