A short distance from Mehrangarh, the Jaswant Thada is a jewel of a memorial — a royal cenotaph built in 1899 in honour of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Crafted from intricately carved sheets of white marble so thin they glow amber when sunlight passes through them, it's earned the nickname the 'Taj Mahal of Marwar'.

Set beside a small lake with the fort towering behind, its gardens and gazebos make it one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots in Jodhpur — a gentle counterpoint to the mighty fortress above.

Don't miss

  • The glowing translucent marble in the main cenotaph.
  • The lakeside setting with Mehrangarh as a backdrop.
  • The portraits of the Marwar rulers inside.

Good to know

It sits just below Mehrangarh — the two are almost always visited together. Calm, uncrowded and lovely in the morning light.
