Completed in 1943, Umaid Bhawan is one of the largest private residences on earth — a vast palace of golden-yellow sandstone that fuses Rajput grandeur with sleek Art Deco style. It's divided into three parts: the royal family's private residence, a legendary luxury hotel, and a museum open to visitors.

Built partly as a famine-relief project to employ thousands during a drought, the palace is a monument to both ambition and compassion. The museum showcases the era's glamour — vintage cars, clocks, and the story of its remarkable construction.

Don't miss

  • The sweeping Art Deco architecture and manicured grounds.
  • The vintage car collection in the museum.
  • The grand central dome, visible across the city.

Good to know

Only the museum section is open to non-guests; the palace and hotel are private. It's a quick but atmospheric visit — pair it with Mehrangarh and Jaswant Thada.
