The seat of the Wodeyar dynasty, Mysore Palace is among the most magnificent royal residences in India — a dazzling Indo-Saracenic confection of domes, arches, turrets and stained glass, rebuilt in the early 20th century. Its interiors are a riot of ornate halls, carved doors, mosaic floors and royal splendour.

The palace is at its most spectacular after dark: every Sunday and on public holidays, it's outlined by nearly 100,000 light bulbs that transform it into a glowing jewel. During the grand Dasara festival, Mysuru and its palace become the centre of one of India's most famous celebrations.
