Built by a Nizam-era nobleman in the shape of a scorpion, Taj Falaknuma Palace crowns a hill 2,000 feet above Hyderabad. Once the residence of the Nizam — reputedly the richest man in the world — it has been restored to jaw-dropping opulence: Venetian chandeliers, a marble staircase, a library modelled on Windsor Castle, and a dining table that seats 101.
Guests are welcomed with rose petals and horse-drawn carriages, and the sense of stepping into a royal fantasy is total. It's the crown jewel of luxury in South India.
